ALBANY TWILIGHT LEAGUE NAMED HOST TO UPPER NEW YORK
STATE STAN MUSIAL
BASEBALL TOURNAMENT
Friday, July 28th
through Monday, July 31st
ALBANY, NY – Celebrating its 70th year, the Albany Twilight League announced this week it would play host to the American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC) Upper New York State Stan Musial Baseball Tournament from Friday, July 28th through Monday, July 31st.
The Twilight League was named the host league by AABC Deputy Commissioner Al Roy at a recent meeting in Clifton Park which included representatives from all AABC NYS-registered teams. The Upper New York State Tournament was last in Albany in 1996.
“I’m glad to see one of the oldest and most successful summer baseball leagues hosting a tournament of this magnitude,” said Roy. “With the fine reputation of the Twilight League, I’m sure it will be a great event for baseball fans to come and watch this summer.”
Last season, the league sent two teams to the tournament—Rensselaer Honda and Albany Senators—held in Syracuse. The Senators, who won the 1998 State Championship, reached last year’s title game before falling to the host team, Sherman Park Phillies, while Honda lost its first two games of the event.
This year’s State Tournament will feature eight teams. Three teams will come from the Twilight League, including the host team, as well as three from the Canadian-New York League, one from the Eastern New York League and one from the Hudson Valley League. Last year’s champion, Sherman Park, was out of the Canadian-New York League.
“We’re excited to be able to celebrate our 70th season with this event back in Albany again,” said Twilight League President Bill Miles. “We plan to make it a memorable weekend for all the players, fans, and everyone involved in it, and hopefully, our teams will represent the league well.”
The Albany Twilight League opens its season on May 12th when defending Tholl Division Champion, Davies A.C. and Troy Haymakers throw the first pitch at 7:30 pm at Bleecker Stadium.
